The best decision we could have made for our complicated 1870’s roof. Robert and his team were honest, straight to the point, hard working, and thorough. Luis was a great project manager and always answered any questions we had throughout the process. The owner even came several times to make sure we were feeling good about the project and to check in with the team. We absolutely, 100% recommend them. Five stars well deserved.

That’s my quick take, here’s the full experience for those looking for details and ready to make a call about a roof:

We do not have a simple house, nor a simple roof. We are talking steep inclines, odd shapes, turnouts, tricky eaves, two chimneys, multiple levels. Should I go on? You get the picture.

More so, we truly love our 1870s build and feel a duty to do right by her and for the family who will come after us. We aren’t out here flipping a house and not caring what happens for the next owner. No, we are building our family forever home. We wanted the roof done once and we wanted it done right.

We had eight estimates from eight different roofing companies. Eight. All eight were either inexperienced for our level of roofing needs or so overpriced it felt completely out of reach. We spent entire Saturdays just talking to sales guys who never felt like they really knew what they were about.

Then we met Robert and knew he was the right choice.

He had the necessary experience.
He had the best price BY FAR.

There was something about his straightforward nature that made us feel we could trust him with the old house we love so much. Suddenly it felt like we could really do this.

We weren’t talking to some salesmen who wanted to waste our Saturday either. We were talking direct to the owner and he was talking directly to us. There’s something about actually talking to the guy whose neck is on the line if something goes wrong that gives you surety, rather than talking to some salesmen who is ten times down the line from some other manager who just maybe might see the owner at quarterly meetings and it’s housed in New York or somewhere.

With Politz, I was talking to the owner right then are there. I had his cell number in my phone and he answered when I called. There is incredible value in that as a homeowner.

We were not looking for just anybody to do our roof. We needed someone with serious skills and experience that could handle a complicated project on a historic house. Politz had what we needed.

Three layers of roofing were removed, including the original metal. The Politz roofing team is the first to see those wooden beams since they were first put up some 150 years ago.

Consider the work it takes to remove that amount of material, not being sure what you will find underneath. The entire roof needed new composite boarding. Some wood needed replacing.

There was a section where we were truly concerned about water damage. The project manager talked to us when he started that part and said very confidently he didn’t know what would happen, but that they were going to figure out. If you’ve ever worked on something historic you know this is music to a homeowners ears. It is never straightforward. And I tell you, they sure did figure it out. And more besides.

Maybe you can imagine the stress we felt with this massive project quite literally hanging over our heads. It feels incredible to have this project done. These guys sure worked hard for us and I won’t forget it.
